Ping Pong designated as an event in the Malaysia Games

(Kuala Lumpur, March 22nd) According to an official announcement by National Sports Council (NSC), table tennis has now been listed as one of the compulsory sports in Sukma and it will be included starting from next year’s edition in Sarawak.

Beh Lee Wei, Malaysia’s national table tennis team coach was ecstatic about the news, and believe that this decision will contribute to the rapid growth of table tennis talents in Malaysia.

“This is a wise decision because for the past ten years, table tennis has not been included in Sukma, which has been detrimental to the development of this sport, giving the impression that table tennis is not welcomed here.”

The last time table tennis appeared in Sukma was at 2013 in Kuala Lumpur’s Game.

Beh said, “This is good news for everyone interested in the sport, including state associations and clubs, as Sukma will be a platform for us to discover young talents. Young table tennis players are also excited and looking forward to their debut in Sukma next year.”

Meanwhile, Beh revealed that the national team has been busy preparing for the Cambodia SEA Games. They have had joint training sessions with South Korea (from January 4th to 18th) and Chinese Taipei (from January 25th to February 1st) in Bukit Jalil. They will participate in a friendly match in China before flying to Antalya, Turkey, to participate in the World Table Tennis Feeder from March 27th to April 1st.
