ALMATY, Aug 3, 2026 — Malaysia enjoyed a strong showing at the ITTF-ATTU Asia Hopes Week & Challenge Almaty 2026, with Yong Wan Suan emerging as champion and Amabelle Chua Yu Han finishing as runner-up in the girls’ competition.
The Malaysian youngsters impressed throughout the event, securing the top two positions and underlining the country’s growing strength at junior level.
Yong Wan Suan claimed the championship title, while compatriot Amabelle Chua completed an excellent Malaysian one-two finish by taking second place.
Their performances also earned both players qualification to represent Asia at the ITTF World Hopes Week & Challenge Sheffield 2026, where leading young talents from around the world will compete later in the year.
The result marked another encouraging international achievement for Malaysian table tennis and highlighted the potential of the country’s next generation of players.
The Almaty event formed part of the ITTF Hopes programme, an international development pathway designed to identify and nurture promising young table tennis talents.
Malaysia’s success in Kazakhstan therefore represents not only a podium finish, but also an important step forward for both players as they progress toward the global stage.
